What does 8,000 mm mean in practice?

The water column measures how much pressure a fabric can withstand before water penetrates. From 1,500 mm, a fabric is considered waterproof in Europe; common rainwear ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 mm. With 8,000 mm, these trousers are above that – the range where sitting on wet rock and hours of rain are no longer a problem. The fabric is unlined, making it lighter and faster drying than lined models. Wash at 30 degrees, without fabric softener, air dry.
